Cordelia was born in 1876 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Cordelia's father was Ambrose Lawson and her mother was Amanda Murrell. Her paternal grandparents were Banks Lawson and Thersey Parvin; her maternal grandparents were Pleasant Murrell and Susan Trent. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William S., Gaines, Joel, Wheeler, Peter, Susan, Mary and Sarah. She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.-
