Penelope was born on June 10th, 1786 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Penelope's father was Richard Grantham and her mother was Frances Amis. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Amis and Alice Gale. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Amis, Lincoln, John Thomas, James, Richard, Mary, Ann, Tabitha, Rachel, Rhoda and Alice Gale. She was the oldest of the twelve children.-
