Frances was born in 1854 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Frances' father was James Christian and her mother was Mary Jane Staples. Her paternal grandparents were John Christian and Nancy Skelton. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, James, John Morgan, William Yance, Wilson N., Nancy J., Julia, Mollie Or Mary E. and Isabell Or Isa. She was the third oldest of the ten children.-
