Benjamin was born in 1893 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.1 Benjamin's father was Benjamin D. Briscoe and his mother was Virginia E. Boy. His maternal grandparents were Andrew Boy and Eleanor Hall. He had four sisters named Eleanor, Ruth, Hannah and Emma. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
