Robert M. was born in 1876 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.¹   Robert M.'s father was Samuel Barr and his mother was Sarah E..  His paternal grandparents were Barr and Margaret. He had a brother and four sisters, named William F., Margaret E., Almeda A., Eleanor J. and Alice J..  He was the second youngest of the six children.
