James Brantley Riddle 
James Brantley was born in January 1748 in Caroline, Glocester Co, VA. James Brantley's father was William Julius Riddle and his mother was Nancy Elizabeth Minter. His paternal grandparents were John Riddle and Ann UNKNOWN; his maternal grandparents were Anthony Morgan Minter and Elizabeth Jane UNKNOWN. He had five brothers, and also a sibling of unknown gender named William, Richard , John, Thomas, Julius and Cato. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 54 in January 1802 in Moore Co, NC.General Notes

James served in the Chatham Co., Militia in 1772 in Capt Charles Matthews Co along with his brother Thomas. In 1771 James & others sold land & a plantation at Cape Fear River in Chatham Co. N C. 17 Feb 1774 he bought 200 acres in Bear Creek, Cumberland Co., N C (Later it was Moore Co, then Lee Co.). In 1784 he was granted 100 acres in Moore Co. & in 1790 he was granted 127 & 104 acres on Bear Creek. He was appointed to road crews in Moore Co. in 1784 & 1787. In 1789 & 90, he & others worked on roads on Chatham & Cumberland Co. line. His will probated Moore Co., N.C. Feb 1802.
