Note: Joseph Phippen, son of Thomas and Elizabeth St. Albin Fitzpenne, was born around 1432. He married Alice Belasyse, his cousin, and daughter of Jonetta Tipping and John Belasyse (1410-1440). She was born in 1346. Her father, John Belasyse, who is the son of Robert Belasyse, who married in 1407, Alice Lamplugh, daughter of William.) Robert was son of Alice Hanfard daughter of Sir Robert Hanfard) and Sir John Belasyse, descendant of Rouland, who married Elgiva, daughter and heiress of Ralph de Belasyse of Belasyse in the bishopric of Durham. After marriage, Rouland styled himself Rouland Belasyse de Belasyse. He was son of Belasius, a Norman knight who came into England with William the Conqueror in 1066. He was General of the forces sent in 1071 to suppress die Bishop, et al, at Ely, then being held against William the Conqueror, and reduced them to obedience. A number in his family were knighted and bore titles, among them - Lord Belasyse, Lord Fauconberg, Viscount Fauconberg and Earl of Fauconberg. Joseph and Alice Phippen had five children: Elizabeth Phippen, John Fitzpen, Alice Phippen, Jonetta Phippen, and Joseph Phippeny. Alice Phippen died in 1489 at the age of 53. Joseph lived another 13 years before he died in 1502 at the age of 70.
