The Fitzpens were anciently established in and around Cornwall, later moving into Yorkshire, Dorsetshire, Devonshire, Ireland and Scotland. There is an old couplet in Cornwall - "By Tre - Ros - Pol - Lan - Caer and Pen, You may know the most of Cornish men."
Thomas Fitzpenne, son of John and Elinor Tipping Fitzpen, was born around 1405. His father, John was Sheriff of London in 1410 John He married Elizabeth St. Albin in 1425. John Penne was a Member of Parliament, returned from Weymouth 14l3/20/22. The St. Albin ancestors came out of Normandy with William the Conqueror. John Henneker, Esq. in his book gives the followers of Duke William - from Chronicum Johannis Brompton - Seynt Aubyn ET Seynt Omer. Thomas and Elizabeth had eight children: Elinor Fitzpenne, John Phippeny, Robert Phippayne, Joseph Phippen, Geoffrey Fitzpenne, Jonetta Fitzpenne (Geoffrey's twin), Elizabeth Fitzpenne, and Albin Fitzpenne. Elizabeth Fitzpenne died in 1456 at the age of 46. Thomas Fitzpenne died three years later in 1459 at the age of 54.
