Ruth was born in 1810 in Bladen County, NC.  Ruth's father was Moses Jones and her mother was Ruth Busby.  Her maternal grandfather was Ezekiel, Sr. Busby. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Reuben, Levi, Moses, Elizabeth and Lucy.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
