Moses was born in 1815 in Bladen County, NC.  Moses' father was Moses Jones and his mother was Ruth Busby.  His maternal grandfather was Ezekiel, Sr. Busby. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Reuben, Levi, Elizabeth, Lucy and Ruth.  He was the youngest of the six children.
