Anne's father was John Stanhop and her mother was Mary Hawley. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Stanhop and Margaret Colshill; her maternal grandfather was John Hawley. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Edward, Henry, John, Michael, Thomas, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Susan and Ursula.
