Emeline was born in 1859 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Emeline's father was John Robinson and her mother was Mary Manis. Her paternal grandparents were Ezekiel Robinson and Hannah; her maternal grandparents were John Manis and Celia. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Powell, Mack, Absalom, John, Fayette, Mary Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth and Cornelia. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
