Cornelia was born in 1869 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Cornelia's father was John Robinson and her mother was Mary Manis. Her paternal grandparents were Ezekiel Robinson and Hannah; her maternal grandparents were John Manis and Celia. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Powell, Mack, Absalom, John, Fayette, Mary Ann, Sarah, Emeline and Elizabeth. She was the youngest of the ten children.-
