Nicholas was born about 1539 in Frittenden, Kent, England. Nicholas' father was John Payne and his mother was Jane Couchman. His paternal grandparents were John Payne and Katherine; his maternal grandfather was Robert Couchman. He had a brother and three sisters, named Robert, Elizabeth, Margaret and Cecelia. He was the oldest of the five children. He was buried on January 24th, 1618 in , Kent, England.General Notes
