Samuel Harrison was born in November 1820 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Samuel Harrison's father was Samuel Millard and his mother was Alice Morrell. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Millard and Rebecca Henton; his maternal grandparents were Jonathan Morrell and Catharine Odell. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Alfred J., Elkana A., Jonathan, Hugh M., Martha M., Mary Ann, Annie, Eliza H., Luisa, Sarah Ann and Elizabeth Jane. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.-
