Mahala Lawson 
Mahala was born in 1846 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Mahala's father was Wilkinson Lawson and her mother was Elizabeth Martin. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Martin and Elizabeth. She had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Amanda. She was the second oldest of the three children.
