Sarah Melissa was born on March 27th, 1826 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Sarah Melissa's father was Drury Alsobrook Haynes and her mother was Mary Polly Hale. Her paternal grandparents were Christopher Haynes and Nancy Alsobrook; her maternal grandparents were Ogburn Or Ogden Hale and Lovina Hobgood. She had a brother and a sister, named Armstead and Louisa. She was the youngest of the three children. She died at the age of 59 on April 16th, 1885 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.General Notes

Sarah had a very trying life. Her father died while she was relative ly young.
On 1 May 1861, while she was away from home, her husband, mother, sis ter, and
daughter were murdered and burned up afterward. She had another youn g daughter
that died. She also had a set of twins--one accidentally killed th e other.
She remarried her own first-cousin (Father-in-Law of her eldest son) , who
cheated her out of all of her dowery. He gave it all to his own chil dren.
Thus, he cheated the children of her first husband. Sarah drowned he rself, on
a Sunday, at the age of 59 years and 16 days.
