Andrew was born in 1749 in , Prince George, Virginia. Andrew's father was Anthony Haynes and his mother was Jane Eaton. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Haynes and Elizabeth Martha Jones; his maternal grandparents were William Eaton and Mary Rives. He had four brothers and a sister, named Herbert, Eaton, Anthony, Thomas and Jane. He had three half-brothers named Benjamin, Isaac and William.-
