Her paternal grandparents were William Grigsby and Cynthia; her maternal grandparents were John Walker and Keziah Louderback. She had five brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel Houston, Jackson, William, Henderson W., Leland, Annis, Olivia Or Livy, Nancy Caroline, Martha E., Catherine Or Elizabeth, Orlena and Melissa. She was the third youngest of the thirteen children.-
