Martha was born about 1730 in , Prince George, Virginia.  Martha's father was William Eaton and her mother was Mary Rives.  Her paternal grandfather was John Eaton; her maternal grandfather was George Rives. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, Charles Rust, Jane, Sarah, Ann and Mary Elizabeth.  She was the third youngest of the eight children.
