Isabel was born in 1872 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Isabel's father was Richard Fain Dyer and her mother was Hila Couch. Her paternal grandparents were John Robert Dyer and Barsheba Thorp. She had a brother named William. She was the younger of the two children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Charles, Robert, Homer Fain, Molly and Ida Mae.-
