Nancy Jane was born in 1836 in , Bourbon, Kentucky. Nancy Jane's father was Jesse Current and her mother was Inghaber Masoner. Her paternal grandparents were John Current and Elizabeth Amos. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Jesse, William, Newton, Lucretia, Sarah and Caroline. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
