Elizabeth was born in 1798 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Elizabeth's father was John Cox and her mother was Tabitha Amis. Her paternal grandfather was John Cox; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Amis and Alice Gale. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Edward, James, Thomas, John, Daniel, Gale, Alice Gale and Frances. She died at the age of 62 in 1860 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.-
