Clay and Mary Grimes; his maternal grandparents were Washington Kennedy and Elizabeth Bedford. He had five brothers and a sister, named Henry Or Harry C., Charles G., Frank, Samuel G., William D. and Mattie. He was the oldest of the seven children.-
