Tabitha was born on November 15th, 1761 in , Cumberland, Virginia.  Tabitha's father was Henry Clay and her mother was Rachel Povall. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named John, Samuel, Henry, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah Or Sallie, Mary Ann, Henrietta, Mattie and Lettitia Or Lettie.  She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 103 in 1864 in , Bourbon, Kentucky.
