Joseph Josiah was born about 1817 in Greene County, Ohio. Joseph Josiah's father was John Blessing and his mother was Clarissa Elizabeth Skeen. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Blessing and Elizabeth Ritschart. He had six brothers and a sister, named Reuben, Abraham, Marcus, John, Isaac, Amos and Catherine. He was the second youngest of the eight children.-
