Nancy was born in 1812 in , Bourbon, Kentucky. Nancy's father was Archibald Bedford and her mother was Lettitia Or Lettie Clay. Her maternal grandparents were Henry Clay and Rachel Povall. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, Asa Coleman, Hillory Mosely, Green Clay, Patsy, Rachel and Henrietta. She was the second youngest of the eight children.-
