Henrietta was born in 1810 in , Bourbon, Kentucky. Henrietta's father was Archibald Bedford and her mother was Lettitia Or Lettie Clay. Her maternal grandparents were Henry Clay and Rachel Povall. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, Asa Coleman, Hillory Mosely, Green Clay, Patsy, Rachel and Nancy. She was the third youngest of the eight children.-
