Nancy was born in 1844 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Nancy's father was David Beal and her mother was Sarah. Her paternal grandparents were John Beal and Eve Or Elizabeth Eberhardt. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Robert, George, David, Mary, Diana, Frances and Susan. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
