Elizabeth was born about 1797 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Elizabeth's father was William Minnis Arnott and her mother was Susannah Bowyer. Her paternal grandparents were John Arnott and Isabel; her maternal grandparents were Adam Bowyer and Christine Louderback. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, Adam Bowyer, Andrew B., William M., Nancy, Frances and Susannah. She was the oldest of the eight children.-
