Penelope was born on October 10th, 1784 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Penelope's father was Thomas Amis and her mother was Alice Gale. Her paternal grandparents were John Amis and Mary Dillard; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Whitney Gale and Mary Griffith. She had four brothers and six sisters, named John, Willis, Lincoln, Thomas Gale, Tabitha, Frances, Mary, Elizabeth, Rachel and Alice Gale. She was the youngest of the eleven children. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Haynes, William, James and Nancy. She died at 5 months old on March 28th, 1785 in , Of Hawkins, Tennessee.-
