Her paternal grandparents were Robert IRVINE and Margaret WYLIE; her maternal grandparents were William McDOWELL and Mary UNKNOWN. She had a brother named Archibald . She was the younger of the two children. She died about 1790 in Azalea, Buncombe Co., NC.General Notes

Margaret was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Her father, James
Irwin, was born in Ireland about 1700. He married Jane or Jean in Ireland and at least three of their children were born there before they sailed for the states in 1727-29.

Note:
Margaret Irwin was the tenth and last child born to James and Jane Irwin. Margaret was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Her father, James Irwin, was born in Ireland about 1700. He married Jane or Jean in Ireland and at least three of their children were born there before they sailed for the states in 1727-29. The Irwin family came to the West Conococheague settlement in Peter's Township, Cumberland County Pennsylvania. Their land was four miles south of Merecerburg. James Irwin and his sons had numerous land warrants in this area. At the time of his death, James Irwin owned six different tracts of land near the Conadoguint Creek. His home became know as "Irwinton Mills". A fine stone house, a gristmill and sawmill were built by James Irwin and added to after his death by son, Archibald. The house, unusual for its day, continues to merit admiration. The Irwin family, like the Patton families, was devout Presbyterian and belonged to the West Conococheague congregation.
James Irwin was a distiller, which did not seem to interfere with his or his family's devotion to the Presbyterianism. He brought up a large family of sons and daughters to be influential citizens, loyal to both country and church.
James Irwin and his wife were great-great grandparents to Benjamin Harrison, twenty-third President of the United States.
