Ruth was born in 1800 in Guilford Co., (Now Chatham) NC. Ruth 's father was John DIXON and her mother was Ruth Dicks. Her maternal grandparents were Zacharias Dicks and Ruth Hiatt. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Solomon, Zachariah , Thomas Elwood , Levina and Amy . She was the oldest of the six children. She had a half-sister named Mary .-
