Alexander was born on October 20th, 1817 in Garrard Co., KY. Alexander's father was Charles BLAND and his mother was Phillis Ann POPE. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin BLAND and Mary UNKNOWN. He had six brothers and seven sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Thomas, Benjamin, John , James, Charles Josiah, Hiram , Nancy , Sally (Jaley), Prudence , Mary , Elizabeth, Kesiah, Julianne and Mildred . He was the youngest of the fifteen children.-
