Joshua's father was Edward P. (Neddy) Parrish and his mother was Prissocia Price. His paternal grandparents were Richard (Ned) Parrish and Polly Mary Criss; his maternal grandparents were Amos Price and Rachel Tracy. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William H., Jesse W., Edward, Daniel, Christina (Teany), Mary Ellen, Nancy and Rachael.-
