John's father was Dr. John Blyth and his mother was Alice Cheke. His paternal grandfather was Robert Blyth; his maternal grandparents were Peter Cheke and Agnes Duffield (or Dufford). He had five brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, Nathaniel, Samuel, William, Robert, Anne, Elizabeth and Mary.-
