Horace Greely Simmonds 
Horace Greely was born on September 24th, 1866 in , Butler County, Kentucky.1 Horace Greely's father was John Quincy Adams Simmonds and his mother was Jane Porter. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Ben B., James M., John L., Millam H., Della, Luna, Anthia and Daisy L.. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 75 on November 15th, 1941 in Vernon, Wilbarger, Texas.1 General Notes

He and "Zilla" moved to Wilbarger County from Bell County in 1905 and settled in the Tolbert community. He farmed there until about 1928 when they sold their land and moved to Vernon. They later moved to the farm of thier daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Glover Whitten. He served on the Wilbarger Co. School Board from 1915 until 1933. He also served as Justice of the Peace from 1915 until 1921.
