Robert de Bellême was born in 1050 in of Montgomery, Wales.1 Robert de Bellême's father was Roger de Montgomerie II Earl of Shrewsbury and his mother was Mabel Talvas. His paternal grandparents were Roger de Montgomerie le sn de Montgomerie and Josceline de Pont-Audemer; his maternal grandparents were Guillaume II Talvas sn de Alençon-Bellême and Hildeburg de Alençon. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Roger "Poitevin" de, Arnulf, Matilda and Sibyl. He was the second oldest of the five children. He was buried in 3rd Earl of Shrewsbury.
