Notes for JOHN CRAWFORD:
On 1850 census for Lincoln County, Elizab eth is listed as age 44 yrs. and
being born in Kentucky. According to land re cords, John first purchased
land in Lincoln County in 1807 and must have been the first of William
Crawford's children to settle here. He must have prosp ered in Tennessee
as his will indicates that he had been very generous with h is children,
especially when you consider that he had 18 children, nine by ea ch
marriage.

Davidson County, Tenn., Marriage Bk. I, p. 36.
The following abstract ed copy of will of John Crawford is from a copy in
possession of Dr. T.E. Hal bert, Lebanon, Tenn., R.F.D. 2, a
great-grandson, and found in Tennessee Bibl e Records--Tombstone
Inscriptions by Jeanette Tillarson Acklen, 1933. It is f iled in Lincoln
County, Tenn.
John Crawford, of County of Lincoln, State of Tennessee. His farm and all
that pertains to it, his dwelling and in general all his property to wife
Elizabeth, sons, John and Ezekiel, to have three hun dred and two acres
land on north side of farm and one hundred and forty acres woodland north
side of hilly tract purchased of McConnell estate. Remaining lands,
negroes and other property to be divided, sold, as to make each equal
share after accounting for advancements. John and Ezekiel, after having
eac h one-third of landed property, to have no more.
Some of older children in Ark ansas and some in Tennessee have had sums as
follows: Hay (or his heirs), $80 9; Wm. D., $927; James, $454.75; Naomi,
$367; Eleanor, $403; Rachel, $228; Na ncy, $228: Andrew A., $317.50; Mary,
$270; Margaret, $162; Elizabeth, $192; w hich amounts are charged to them
on his book of accounts.
Of any older child ren found to have received more than an equitable share
shall not be required to refund, John and Ezekiel, after death of wife,
two-thirds of the lands on ly.
Proceeds of estate after death of wife equally divided among his
followi ng named children: Hay's heirs, William D., James, Naomi, Eleanor,
Nancy, And rew A., Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, ,Emily, Martha Lucinda and
Rachel.
Execut ors: Alexander McDonald of Fayetteville, William F. ________, Esq.
of Fayette ville, and his son, John Crawford.

Crawford and wife Rachel, John Clayton and wife Polly, all of age and
reside in the state of Texas. John Crawford, late of L incoln County,
Tenn. died in 1847 leaving as heirs your complainant (Elizabet h Crawford)
and Martha L. Crawford, a minor of Lincoln County, and the childr en of
Hezekiah Crawford, who died in the state of Arkansas in 1848, the numbe r
and names of his children not remembered except one, Andrew Crawford, his
only heirs and devisees at law. Said John Crawford left a will dated 10
Janu ary 1846, naming wife Elizabeth and two sons John and Ezekiel. Said
Elizabet h is now getting old. Said son John has long since married and
lives and farm s by himself; said son Ezekiel has also married and wishes
to remove to the s tate of Texas. A large number of her children have
removed to the states of A rkansas and Texas and several more expect to go
