Robert FitzWalter's father was Walter FitzRobert Baron Baynard and his mother was Maud Lady of Diss de Lucy. His paternal grandfather was Robert FitzRichard Steward Baron Baynard; his maternal grandparents were Sir Richard Justicular de Lucy and Roesia (de Lucy). He was an only child.
