Narrative

Enrolled at St. Mary's Hall, Oxford at age 17 in May 12, 1612 and took
his AB degree at age 19 on November 14, 1614. He was instituted Rector
of Northleigh, Diocese of Exeter, Devonshire, England, April 14, 1621,
where he remained eleven years. Later Dr. Hull was Bishop of Exeter, the
"British Seneca", the wittiest as well as the wisest prelate of the time.
He resigned and moved to Somersetshire where he decided to move to New
England where four of his brothers were already living. A company of 16
families numbering 104 persons set sail in March of 1635. Reverend Hull
together with his second wife Agnes, seven children, and three servants
went to Boston, and settled in what was to later become Weymouth, MA. He
moved in 1637 to Nantasket a part of Hingham, to Plymouth in 1639, and
then to help found Barnstable, Massachussetts. He was having trouble with
the Puritan church hierarchy and after he moved to Yarmouth in 1641, was
excommunicated for agreeing to be their minister there. In 1643 he
removed to York, Maine. He was in cornwall, England from 1653 to 1662
when he moved to Oyster River, now Dover, New Hampshire. He then settled
at the Isles of Shoals, Maine, where he died in 1665.
