!Lucy Hill Byrne is the fifth child of Thomas King Byrne and his wife,
Mary Throckmorton, was born near Pittsville on "Brazos River", Fort
Bend County Texas, December 24, 1873; married at Goliad, Texas
February 24, 1897, Leonard VonDohlen (born in Goliad October 12, 1869,
a farmer and cotton planter near that place. Obituary: Mrs. Lucy Byrne
Von Dohlen, 77, beloved Goliad woman, died at 12:53 P.M. on Friday
Dec. 7 1951, shortly after being stricken while seated at the dinner
table. Although in failing health for the past several years, Mrs.
Von Dohlen's death was unexpected and her passing was a distinct shock
to her relatives and numerous friends in this community. The deceased
was a widow of the late Leonard Meyers Von Dohlen and had been a
resident of Goliad for almost 55 years. a native of Texas, Mrs. Von
Dohlen was born in the old Lamar community in Aransas county on Dec.
24, 1873, to Thomas K. Byrne and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Throckmorton)
Byrne. She was a member of a family of 12 children, of whom now only
three survive, namely, a sister, Mrs. Agnes Joiner, Long Beach,
Calif., and two brothers, Robert J. Byrne, Goliad, and W.A. Byrne,
Globe City Ariz. Other survivors are: Two daughters, Mrs. Agnes
Kiefel, Plantersville, Texas, and Mrs Grace Haring, Goliad; three
sons, Leonard H. and Arthur Von Dohlen, Goliad, and Donald Von Dohlen,
Houston and 12 grandchildren, Mrs. Jeannie Roberts, Houston. Frank
Kiefel, Freeport, Mary Grace Kiefel, Plantersville; Lenny and Timothy
Von Dohlen and Miss Jane Von Dohlen, Pete, Paul and Johnnie Haring,
all of Goliad; Donald Von Dohlen, Houston and Robert Gene and Barbara
Von Dohlen, Goliad. Holy Rosary services for Mrs. Von Dohlen, recited
at her late residence Friday night at 8 O'clock, were in charge of her
pastor, the Rev. Peter Kolvenbach, pastor of the Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church. Funeral services were held from the Immaculate
Conception Church at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with the rites and
sermon in charge of her former pastor, the Right Rev. Harold F.
Palmer, rector of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beeville, Serving as
Acolytes during the final rites were Timothy and Robert Gene Von
Dohlen, grandsons of the Deceased. Burial followed in the Holy Cross
(Catholic) Cemetery, with the following serving as active pallbearers;
Frank Kiefel of Freeport, Russell Roberts of Houston Lenny Von Dohlen,
and Pete and Paul Haring, of Goliad. Mrs. Von Dohlen's grandsons, and
Pat Byrne of Goliad. Francis B. Byrne of Cuero and Thomas Byrne of
San Antonio.
