Major Richard Goode moved from Virginia to Rockingham, Stokes Co., north
carolina, 1760 - 1770, and afterwards set out for Kentucky with his
family. He fought with distincvtion at Braddock's defeat: was a Major in
the Continental Army, serving in the battle of Guilford Court House, and
in the operations about Fort Duquesne. His descendant, Richard L. Goode,
writes: -
"There is now in my possession a fine silver knee-buckle which once
belonged to this ancestor, worn by him in the engagement at Guilford
Court House. It since has descended as an heirloom by primogeniture.
Major Goode started from Stokes Co., N.C., for Kentucky in 1802, but his
leg was broken on the journey, and gangrene setting in, he died at
Abington, Virginia, where he is buried. His widow secured a pension from
the Government." p. 73 Virginia Cousins
