Narrative

[Byrne]
!John Adam Hartman and Katherine lived on a farm near St. Peters Ind.
They had two children. Katherine died at an early age and in 1890,
John married Magdalene Pax. When died in 1904, Magdalene and family
moved to 3612 Monticello Ave, Chicago, Ill, where she spent her
remaining days. They had eleven children. Some things don't add up
here. John married in 1890 and died in 1904. That means they had 11
children in 13 years. Some dates must be wrong. A STORY BY UNCLE
VICTOR HARTMAN John was home by himself; don't know if the family was
at church or where they were. But a chicken hawk was trying to get the
chickens. John took a gun to kill the hawk and when he crawled
through the fence, the gun dis- charged and killed him. Told this
story in Milan Mi. to Mary Lou Hartman and her sister and they sure
looked down their noses as if they had another story. Did not hear
their story.
