# 295 in Virginia Cousins, Hon. Sidney Moore Goode, was born in Elbert
Co., GA, January 28, 1797, and died in Thibodaux, Alabama, November 3,
1846. Married November 7, 1820, in Jackson, Clarke Co., Alabama,
Louisiana Scudday, b. in Abbeville District, South Carolina, March 28,
1803, d. in Thibodaux, Louisiana, September 19, 1883; (dau. of John
Scudday, b. in Louisa Co., Va., about 1770, and Eliz. Bickley, b. in
Louisa Co., Va., about 1776,)
Sidney Moore Goode, when a boy, removed with his father to Clarke Co.,
Alabama. Before he was of age he served on the Staff of General Andrew
Jackson in the Florida war, and was present at the capture of Pensacola,
but was invalided and at home at the time of the Battle of New Orleans.
He studied law in Clarke Co., and removed about 1827 to Marion, Perry
Co., Alabama, where he practiced his profession for some years. Having
inherited from his father and father-in-law a large number of negroes, he
bought a tract of land in Kemper Co., Mississippi, where from 1827 on, he
was a successful cotton-planter. Later he bought a sugar plantation in
Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, upon which he lived at the time of his
death. His next neighbor was Bishop Leonidas Polk, Lieut.-Gen., C.S.A.
While a citizen of Mississippi, he was for a number of terms, member of
the State Senate. The family mansion in Louisiana was burned about 1859,
destroying all it contained, including the family bible, with its record
of family history.
