Narrative
In 1759 George Farrar and Judith Jefferson Farrar moved from then
Chesterfield County, Virginia to Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Before
1749 Chesterfield County was known as Henrico County. Mecklenburg was
formerly Lunenburg.[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 21, Ed. 1, Tree #1186, Date of
Import: Apr 26, 1999]
One of the famous Farrar family members, Colonel William Farrar II, born
about 1626, tried to get Virginia planters to turn to silk culture
instead of raising that "Evil Weede" tobacco. In 1759, George and Judith
moved from then Chesterfield Co, VA to Mecklenberg Co, VA to be near her
brother, Field Jefferson. Field had many acres of land on both sides of
the Roanoke River just east of present day Clarksville, VA. George and
Judity lived for about 30 years on a plantation in the southside of
Henrico Co, VA(which after 1747 became Chesterfield Co, VA) before moving
in 1759.
