Sarah Embra's father was Reverend Clement Read and her mother was Clarissa Jane Edmunds. Her paternal grandparents were Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Read and Sarah Embra; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Edmunds and Sarah Eldridge. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Dr. Isaac, George Whitfield, Nicholas Edmunds, Thomas Edmunds, Clement, Edwin Edmunds, Clarissa Jane, Harriet Edmunds, Priscilla, Almeria and Anne Elizabeth.-
