Her paternal grandparents were Captain John Jacob and Anne Cheney; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Howard and Hannah Dorsey. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Joseph Howard, Richard, Samuel, John, Zachariah, Dorsey, Susannah, Ann, Rachel, Sarah and Hannah.-
