Benjamin was born in 1688. Benjamin's father was Captain John Jacob and his mother was Anne Cheney. His paternal grandparents were John Jacob and Alice Golder; his maternal grandparents were Richard Cheney and UNKNOWN Charity. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, John, Samuel, Richard, Sr., Thomas, Susannah, Anne, Elizabeth and Charity. He had a half-sister named Rachel.
