Mackerness' father was John Goode and his mother was FNU Watkins. His paternal grandfather was Mackerness Goode. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Judge Samuel Watkins, Son of Samuel, John, Philip, Martha and Ann. He died on March 25th, 1849 in Mecklenburg Co., Va.General Notes

Mackerness Goode was a soldier in the war of 1812, in Capt. George
Harman's company of Virginia militia.
